Policy Manager, Banking, Payments and Innovation

Career story

I’m a Policy Manager in Banking, Payments and Innovation. I look at innovation and change happening in payments, and think about how we might need to provide new services in the future to accommodate it.

Tell us about your career at the Bank of England

I started on the Bank of England’s graduate scheme. One of the best things about working here is being able to move across a variety of roles in different divisions.  For me, this has included compiling money and credit data in the statistics area, running sterling monetary policy operations, and a very valuable external secondment to the British Business Bank.

You’re also encouraged to pursue personal development beyond your direct role. I’ve volunteered during lunchtimes to help write a newspaper at a local school and taken British Sign Language classes.

What’s the workplace culture like?

You get rewarded here for working hard and producing good outputs, not for putting in long hours for the sake of it! Everyone is encouraged to give constructive challenge, and there’s plenty of healthy debate.

The Bank is making big improvements to lower its environmental impact – from committing to switching to a renewable energy supply to removing disposables from the canteen. It’s really important to me to work for an employer that cares about this.
