Cyber security careers at the Bank of England

We are recruiting for a number of cyber roles, ranging from those relatively new to the industry through to cyber experts.

What we do

We’re no ordinary bank, we’re the UK’s Central Bank. We’re a public body and the issues we deal with affect everyone. We ensure banking services are safe, inflation remains stable, and the UK financial system is sound. Our cyber teams play a vital role in this work and that’s where you could come in.

We’re looking for people with fresh perspectives and inquisitive thinkers to help us tackle once-in-a-generation challenges.

Take a look at some of the teams that carry out our work.

Cyber Security Division

There are over 100 colleagues working in our Cyber Security Division. Some have years of experience working at the Bank of England. Many others have joined from the public and private sectors and have brought in a wealth of new ideas.

We are actively recruiting for roles that need different levels of skills and experience. So whether you are at the early stage in your career, mid-career or have a great deal of experience to offer, we want to hear from you.

If you join us, we can guarantee you will be working with a dynamic team who are passionate about protecting the security and stability of critical infrastructure in the UK. We work at the cutting edge of cyber to:

  • identify threats
  • uncover vulnerabilities
  • ensure robust and resilient infrastructure for the UK.

Supervisory Risk Specialists Directorate

Our Supervisory Risk Specialists Directorate (SRS) is part of our Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA). The PRA regulates banks and insurers in the UK.

SRS provides deep technical expertise and applies judgement in specific risk subject areas as part of the PRA’s integrated supervisory approach, in order to identify, analyse and mitigate material risks to the safety and soundness of PRA regulated firms. These material risks can arise within and across firms and from the market environment.

It works to make sure these firms can keep providing services to their customers in the face of risks such as a cyber or technology failure. You would be using your expertise to identify, analyse and mitigate these risks.

The roles sit within the Operational Risk and Resilience Division (ORRD) which helps to build the resilience of the UK’s financial sector to a range of non-financial risks (eg cyber, technology failure).

We ensure infrastructure that is critical to the UK’s economy keeps working. It is exciting work involving other regulators, government agencies and other central banks around the world.
