What we do

We can’t run an organisation without our colleagues. The vital services provided by our central support functions enable colleagues each and every day, through the systems we rely on, the buildings we work within, the products and services we procure, the processes, tools and data we apply and the ways we attract, develop and nurture our people.

  • Our Central Operations Directorate focusses on Property, Security, Procurement and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG).
  • The Change and Planning Directorate leads on prioritisations and investment planning to ensure the most effective deployment of resources in the Bank.
  • The Communications Directorate works internally to share information and help all colleagues in their role towards delivering the Bank's mission. Externally the Directorate uses it channels to improve understanding and trust in the work of the Bank.
  • Finance and Performance use effective controls to protect the Bank’s financial position and reputation. It offers analytical insights and financial management reporting to the Bank’s senior management, partnering with all areas of the organisation and technical expertise in the areas of accounting and tax.
  • The Governor’s office sits at the heart of the Bank and supports the Governor in all aspects of policy, strategy and management.

The team advises the Governor in his role as Chair of the MPC, FPC and PRC, as CEO of the Bank, and in various international roles. Alongside the Deputy Governors, Governor’s office is vital for effective decision-making.

  • The People Directorate’s purpose is to attract, identify, develop, nurture, retain and motivate the people the Bank needs to fulfil the mission. They do this by shaping and advising on our people strategies and approaches and providing help and advice for colleagues.
  • The Risk Directorate houses the second line risk and compliance functions charged with providing effective oversight of the Bank’s financial and non-financial risks and ensuring compliance with its policies.
  • Strategic Change and Operation’s mission is to support and challenge the deputy governorship to achieve high quality outcomes and an inclusive and agile working culture. They lead across a number of key areas and work in partnership with the business to design and operate frameworks, processes and systems to deliver objectives across both BAU work and change.
