Monetary Policy Roundtable: November 2016

Quarterly Bulletin 2017 Q1
Published on 17 March 2017

On 10 November 2016, the Bank of England and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) hosted their fifteenth Monetary Policy Roundtable. These events provide a forum for economists to discuss key issues relevant to monetary policy in the United Kingdom.

As with previous Roundtable discussions, participants included a range of economists from private sector financial institutions, academia, public sector bodies and industry associations. There were two topics of discussion:

  • monitoring the economy: the challenges of monitoring how the economy is developing post-referendum, given the limited data available; and
  • challenges for monetary policy: the current challenges for monetary policy in a low global interest rate environment.

This report summarises the main issues raised by participants.
